Online Security Tips

1. Do not use a public computer such as those in libraries, hotels or Internet cafes to connect to online banking sites because of the risk of spyware residing on public equipment.
2. Set up and regularly review Online Banking alerts including balance alerts, transfer alerts, and password change alerts.
3. Log out of financial websites when finished conducting business.
4. Create a strong password of 8 to 16 characters that includes a combination of mixed case letters, numbers and special characters.
5. Make your password unique and change it regularly.
6. Never store your username and password where others can gain access to them.
7. Never share your username or password.
8. Do not use automatic login features that save usernames and/or passwords.
9. Do not open e-mail from unknown sources. Be suspicious of e-mails purporting to be from a financial institution, government department or other agency requesting account information or verification, or banking access credentials such as usernames, passwords, PINs and similar information. Opening file attachments or clicking on web links in suspicious e-mails could expose your system to malicious code that could hijack your computer. Never respond to a suspicious e-mail or click on any hyperlink embedded in a suspicious e-mail. Call the purported source if you are unsure who sent an e-mail.
10. Install anti-virus and spyware detection software on all computer systems. Free software may not provide protection against the latest threats compared with an industry standard product.
11. Update all of your computers regularly with the latest versions and patches of both anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
12. Do not use unsecured wireless connections to access accounts or to perform financial transactions.
